This section provides information and assistance on how to make the best use of the Northwestern Ontario Immigration Portal (the Portal).

This Portal provides a wealth of newcomer and immigration related information on Northwestern Ontario as a major region within the Province of Ontario, as well as very specific information about 32 different communities across this region.

Our objective is to provide you with information about our region and communities that may help you make an informed decision about moving to Northwestern Ontario.  We believe that this is a great place to live, work, learn, raise a family, stay active, enjoy the beauty of our region, or start a business – we hope that the information provided through this Portal conveys this message.

Structure of the Portal

The Northwestern Ontario Immigration Portal is structured to provide you with the following types of information:

A. General Information about immigration to Canada and settlement services in Northwestern Ontario. This is provided through the following pages and main content categories:

Main Portal Navigation


Top Menu Bar (Blue):
The blue top menu bar appears on every page of the Portal. This provides you with easy and quick navigation back to the Home page and to all major content category pages of the Portal:

Right Column Menu:
On each page of the Portal (beginning following the Home page), the right column is common and provides easy and quick access to the following sections/pages of the Portal:

Left Column Menu (For each main content category following the Home Page):
On each page of the main Portal (other than the Home page), the left column provides a menu of content pages that is specific to the category (ie. Living menu, Working menu, etc.).


Accessibility Help

The Portal has been designed to be compliant with international web accessibility standards.

Some of the accessibility features are:
  • Photos and graphics have Alt Tags that provide a textual description;
  • At the top of each page, you can click on “Text Only” to reformat the page to remove the images and have only text appear. Click on the same button to view images and text;
  • At the top of each page, you can click on the letters A, A, and A, to magnify the text image size from small, to medium, or large;
  • The Portal is accessible by various web Browsers, including:
    • Internet Explorer (versions, 6, 7, 8)
    • Mozilla Based browsers (eg, Netscape, Firefox, Mozilla)


Help in Finding Content

A Search function is available to search for specific content within the Portal. See the Search button at the top right of each page.

Key pages of the Portal are translated in the following 11 languages:
