Transporting Your Belongings

If not properly informed, transporting your personal belongings into Canada can be a confusing process for those planning to settle in Northwestern Ontario for the first time. To avoid denial of entry of personal belongings into Canada, it is highly recommended to review all Canadian and international customs guidelines before departing and shipping any international cargo.

Canadian customs laws, guidelines and procedures can vary depending on the origin of the cargo, the contents of the cargo, the amount of cargo, and the method chosen to transport the cargo. It is important to ensure that all proper paperwork be submitted for security, tax and duty purposes (where applicable). All official information on transporting your belongings into Canada can be found on the Canada Border Service Agency website
