  Hub of the North

“Community cannot for long feed on itself; it can only flourish with the coming of others from beyond, their unknown and undiscovered brothers [and sisters].”

-      Howard Thurman

Welcome to Sioux Lookout, the true Hub of the North!  We are a growing, thriving and vibrant community that celebrates and encourages diversity. As a major service centre for the First Nations communities within our region, we can provide a number of opportunities for a variety of economic, cultural, social and environmental experiences that are truly unique.  Sioux Lookout can offer a tremendous Northwestern Ontario experience that will appeal to all people.

Located in the heart of the boreal forest, our close ties to nature provide a quality of life that is unparalleled.  The pristine lakes, blue skies and clean air attract those who enjoy all types of outdoor activities but it is our people that are perhaps the greatest resource we have.  Volunteerism and community involvement provide newcomers with a myriad of opportunities to participate in town life and most people who relocate here find it very easy to meet new friends.

Sioux Lookout is also in the midst of an expansion of our service based sector and there is a subsequent need to fill jobs in health care, social service, education, government service, tourism and First Nations organizations.  As a result of our geographic location, our airport is one of the busiest in Canada and we are currently in the process of implementing a plan to expand our services there.  Construction is also underway to build a new hospital, hostel, court house, and enhanced fire attack base.  We are also in the process of revitalizing our downtown cores.

Over the years, Sioux Lookout has developed a reputation for being a welcoming inclusive community.  It is our sincere hope that you consider making our home your next home.
