The Township of O’Connor is a friendly residential community located within a 30 minute drive west of the City of Thunder Bay. The Township is nearly 110 square kilometres in area and is home to a population of approximately 720 people. The Township’s beautiful forestlands, winding streams and hilly terrain offer spectacular vistas and unlimited opportunities for enjoying nature. Small beef and hobby farmers operate in the area and many residents keep horses, adding country flavour to the stunning natural scenery.
The Township was originally settled in the early 1900s by farmers and lumbermen. No large industry now operates in the area, so residents enjoy clean air, land and water. Traffic is mostly residential, making roads safe and quiet. With the exception of one built-up area at the edge of the Township created prior to the most recent Township Zoning By-Law and Official Plan, residential zoning regulates lot sizes to a minimum of 5 acres, ensuring residents’ privacy.A few small businesses operate in the Township, most serving the needs of area residents. For the most part residents work in the nearby City of Thunder Bay and return home to the peace and quiet of country living. O’Connor offers families the opportunity to raise children in a wholesome outdoor lifestyle and in a safe environment with the lowest crime rate in the region.
