Support Services

The municipal Economic Development departments and local Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDC’s) work in collaboration in communities across Northwestern Ontario to help entrepreneurs and new and existing businesses to maintain a positive environment for economic success.

Both agencies provide essential business supports at the community level and are a consistent source of relevant information about the local economy, advice on business practices and planning, workshops, and connections to decision-makers.

If you are a new entrepreneur or business owner, Small Business Enterprise Centres will be a valuable resource to you. Programs and supports are provided to help you start and grow a business. Each centre is staffed with dedicated business professionals who help you determine what you need to do before, during and after launching your business.

Business owners, employees and entrepreneurs in Northwestern Ontario can join the Chamber of Commerce or related business association in their business area. These organizations host regular networking events, education programs and trade shows, and offer information for new and existing businesses. Members can participate on various committees related to their own area of expertise.  Chambers of Commerce usually charge an annual membership fee based on the size of your business.

The Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce (NOACC) represents every active Chamber of Commerce from Marathon to the Manitoba border. The membership includes over 2000 businesses and 7 of the largest corporations in the Northwestern Ontario region. NOACC is actively involved in the identification and resolutions of issues and concerns affecting regional businesses in Northwestern Ontario.

Social networking is a very important part of being successful in business in Northwestern Ontario. Join your local Chamber, participate in business events and use the services offered by economic development organizations. All are great ways to meet other business professionals and make important contacts that will help move your business forward.
