Libraries

Most of the libraries in Northwestern Ontario are served by Ontario Library Service – North (OLS-N), a Transfer Payment agency of the Ontario Ministry of Culture.  OLS-N provides a wide range of support services to public libraries throughout the region. Their mandate is to deliver programs and services that promote the provision of quality library services to the public.

This results in a coordinated system of libraries throughout the province and Northwestern Ontario.  Regional member libraries have access to inter-library loans, cooperative purchasing and other benefits.  As a result, library users have access to enormous shared catalogues of literature, audio and video collections regardless of the physical size of their local library.

Most communities in Northwestern Ontario have at least one public library where residents can obtain a free membership to borrow, visit and make use of Internet access. Visit your municipal office for more information.
