Northwestern Ontario is a region of great cultural diversity. We are truly a multiethnic, multilingual and multicultural region. A diverse mix of people ensures a variety of cultural assets including organizations, groups, facilities, events and attractions.
The Folklore Festival
, coordinated by the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association
, is a wonderful example of many cultures coming together. Since 1972 the festival has provided an opportunity for ethno-cultural groups and organizations to celebrate their cultural heritage through song, dance, crafts and food. The annual event typically attracts about 10,000 people.
Many other groups also host multicultural events throughout the year. Pow Wows and traditional Indigenous gatherings attract large crowds and are open for everyone to attend.
Other arts, culture and heritage organizations bring culture days, music, art shows, street fairs, theatre performances, food & drink festivals, film festivals and more.
