Employee Rights

If you have decided to live and work in Northwestern Ontario and want to learn more about your employee rights and responsibilities, the Ministry of Labour of Ontario provides useful information in 23 languages about regulated Ontario employment standards.

The Ontario Employment Standards Act is designed to protect the rights of employers and employees in Ontario and covers key issues such as:
  • Your rights at work
  • Hours of work and overtime pay
  • Leaves of absence
  • Vacation
  • Wrongful dismissal
  • Grievance procedures
Other important legislation that affects workplaces in Ontario are the Human Rights Code and the Labour Relations Act.
